Would liquid McLube work as well? I'm anxious to try this trick!

Subject
tuning Steinway uprights

At a recent guild meeting with a Steinway rep. The question was asked,
"why is it so hard to tune the upper treble on a Steinway?" His answer was
to use Protex Prolube on the felt that is just above the "V" bar. He
didn't know why it worked but it did. So the next time I tuned a Steinway
upright I used the Prolube and by God! It workes!! Don't ask me to give an
explanation as to why it works but it does. Has anybody else tried this?
