Phil, you're making more of a project out of this than it needs to be. The bass corner is protected by the cardboard. You can dead-lift it from there or if you prefer, insert a folded pad underneath; but that means lifting the weight anyway. Transferring to a skid is not necessary. Unless the lyre is of super strong construction, I would not tip with it attached. Since you are not willing to divulge the make, I presume the lyre is of dubious strength. I do a fair amount of moving and once the piano has been set on the other two legs we lift the bass and prop it with a faux leg. It is comprised of two sections of plywood joined by a sawed-off continuous hinge. The length is about an inch longer than a S&S leg.
