There is a good discussion of the differences between
NiCad and NiMH chargers at this site:
http://www.powerstream.com/NiMH.htm
The problem is with fast charging - charging that
completes in one to two hours. It is very important
to detect when to stop fast charging to keep from
damaging the battery, and that is just what the proper
chargers do. Continuous very slow charging is no
problem for the battery, but then you have to wait all
day for the battery to charge.
