Pianotech Digest, Vol 1297, Issue 126 / Name this part

I'm hoping this contribution was tongue in cheek. Thumb bolts are wonderful for parts that need to come out regularly for maintenance of the piano and were quite common in the last half of the 19th century. My favorite ones are even fitted into special inset washers that let you just drop the bolt sufficient to remove the part, but the thumb bolt stays in the part. No fishing about for where you put that screw or hex head. Why replace an antique part that still works?

why not just replace the bolts with hex heads right off the shelf?

and cut a slot for a screwdriver.
