Thanks everyone, I will probably go with the T-nuts. Barbara, instead of tilting the piano I lift one end of the piano and slide a block under. This gives me enough room to work with. Yes, I used machine screws (did you see the pictures?). How did you press the T-nuts in from the bottom without tilting the piano--I mean, how did you get your arm under there? Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: Marcel Carey To: Pianotech List Sent: Thursday, May 29, 2008 4:58 AM Subject: RE: pedal repair I completely agree that T-nuts are the repair of choice. But, Barb, I install the screws from the top. I don't have to use the nuts. I drill from the top down, then press the T-nuts up from the bottom and just use the machine screws from the top. This way, you won't have to use the ratchet or wescott to remove the pedal while doing future service. I came upon this Kawai that another tech had used nuts and bolts---long bolts. (picture 14) Try dealing with those to fix other pedal problems! I tilted the piano and installed the t-nuts and the right size screw-head bolt. Pictures 57 & 60. Good luck!
