Hi, I use the same method (measuring tape with a piece of string fixed at the end and at the right place a loop wich can be fixed on the hitch pin) I had this special measuring tape from a string maker in Germany (Hellerbass) and have to say it is verry easy to use even alone (it is a lot faster with a seccond person of course) For the treble sections (shorter strings) i have several small rulers from different lenghts. They need two lenght measurements : A : from hitch pin to seccond brige pin and B from hitch pin to aggrafe or capo end point. Then they need also the core size and total size of the string. Once i only gave the string lenghts and the string maker made a rescaling. I always had perfect bass strings with this system (and this good string maker) Pierre Gevaert _____ De : pianotech-bounces at ptg.org [mailto:pianotech-bounces at ptg.org] De la part de Marc Lanthier (Piano Lanco) Envoyé : dimanche 9 novembre 2008 22:52 À : pianotech at ptg.org Objet : [pianotech] Measuring Bass String Lengths Hi, What method do you guys recommend for measuring the length of bass strings in a grand (while still in the piano) in order to have a new set made? Not with a paper pattern. I've used a measuring tape and a piece of string around the hitch pin which I marked and then re-measured afterwards.... Also, any rule-of-thumb as to the minimum grand piano size that would benefit from a computerized rescaling? thanks PIANO LANCO Marc Lanthier 514-770-7438 1-877-PIANO10 info at pianolanco.com www.pianolanco.com <http://www.pianolanco.com/> -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
