[pianotech] Suggestions and help for and old Sohmer Grand, serial number 10356

Hi guys,
Question? Has anyone successfully modified these rocker capstans that had 
the short sticker attached at both ends? Can the whippens and key be changed 
without screwing up balance, or causing too much friction?  I can forsee 
problems if the stickers are too long.
I might take on a similar job.
