This is exactly the kind of info I am looking for. Thank you, and Dean both.

Any other problems with these pianos that I should look for/watch for/advise
customer about?

Kendall,  I had the same thing on one of these that I tuned for a customer
(who had a son that played very hard).  Every time I went there, another one
was broken, until they traded it in on something else.  I think Dean hit it
on the head.  Expect more breakage.

The critter in question is a 20-year-old Schafer & Sons VS-44  44" vertical

The most immediate problem seems to be string breakage (bass strings)
