Hi, Anne. Thanks for your reply. I will post photos as soon as the customer gets them to me, or I will take them myself when I get over to see the piano. It is in NW Ohio, not too far from me. I did explain to her that pianos have value mostly as an instrument, not as an antique, unless they are a significant artifact. I tried to get her to understand that, and she is convinced that someone out there would be interested in preserving it, although she did not (apparently) want to spend the money to do it herself. Time will tell. Thanks for your input! "William Rolfe" caught my eye, as yes, he was an important early builder, and yes, the piano is likely ca. 1805. There is definitely a small but determined select market for these types of instruments. She needs to get the photos somehow, and I would be very happy to look at them. Where is it located? I wouldn't get her excited about high value, as they frequently have serious structural issues which have to be corrected, not to mention missing parts, such as hammers, dampers, and complete pedal systems. They have increased in value significantly in the last 3 years, but unrestored, they still aren't fetching very much, since the work requires skill and great patience (hmm...sounds like my articles....). Anne Happy Turkey Day all. ----- Original Message ----- From: pianotech-request at ptg.org To: pianotech at ptg.org Sent: Wednesday, November 26, 2008 8:31:39 AM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: pianotech Digest, Vol 1, Issue 118 Send pianotech mailing list submissions to pianotech at ptg.org To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://ptg.org/mailman/listinfo/pianotech_ptg.org or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to pianotech-request at ptg.org You can reach the person managing the list at pianotech-owner at ptg.org When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of pianotech digest..."
