Jack~ Yes, A.B. Chase 6'1" Model T. What a piano, huh? A lot like the earlier, round tail Stnwy A's... I had always wondered what the story was behind the Knabe Concert Grands. >From my personal experience, and from what I have heard from others, many of them were phenomenal instruments. This information about Allen Chase sounds like it might be an important piece of that picture. Any other important knowledge you have that you might want to share about Mr. Chase? (Or Knabe Concert Grands...?) Not sure what you meant by WN&G "bumper" action. (By the way, I have always preferred the rails on WN&G grand actions to those on Steinway. So much easier to travel flanges, or space the hammers, and have them stay, or... ...not sure what all the fuss is about Steinway tubular action rails, especially since I recently pulled out a relatively new one that I had had in stock for a few years, in order to replace a cracked original rail, only to discover that the new one was cracked as well...) ~Ken Bean PianoFinders _____ From: JWyatt1492 at aol.com [mailto:JWyatt1492 at aol.com] Sent: Thursday, October 23, 2008 9:01 AM To: flibberti.gibbet at yahoo.com; pianotech at ptg.org Subject: Re: Best Buys in the Used piano Market Hello Thomas, YES ,, there are several. One that jumps into my mind is the A.B. Chase Scale " T " Made in early 1900s. This is a 6"1' looks like a round tail Steinway A. It has a "hook" treble bridge with 2 - two string wraped unisions and 7 three string unsions coming from the bass. It also has a elongated " bell". Its big advantage over the Stinway is that it has the W-N-G bumper action and the bass sound with a big fundamental tone with a beautiful bloom. Many of these pianos used Quarterd Mah. for thier cabinets. As a side note Walter Lane worked with Allen Chase for four years before he went on his own and buillt the worlds best upright. ( my opinion ) Also A.B. Chase built many Knabe concert grands for the Knabe Co. in the mid to late 1920s " All knowledge comes from the past."
