Michael: Yes, they are aluminum. Kimball and a few other manufacturers (Jansenn comes to mind) experimented with them, none of them successfully. You can either buy Tremaine Parson's scaling program (or use mine), or contact any of the superb technicians out there who do rescaling on a regular basis. You'll need to do some significant measuring to create the data you need to rescale that area of the piano.
