George, I'm not sure if this relates to the problem you are encountering, but this model had a problem with tonal and tuning problems at the botton of the tenor bridge (B27, C28.....). The plain steel wire went all the way down through B27 on the tenor bridge, but with the short wire lengths the tension was so low that I would sometimes compare it to trying to tune rubber bands. I seem to remember a time when Yamaha offered a plan to rescale those lower notes on the tenor bridge with wrapped strings, but I don't remember any details about that. I think some later versions of the GH-1 had some improvements made in that area, although still with the plain steel wire, and the sound was better. Sorry I can't be more specific -- this report reflects personal experience but not much investigation or analysis.
