Bruce, I think the M&H new ones are great!! I worked in a store a few years ago when the "new" ones started coming in.. A far better instrument over the Aeolean's to be sure, but not sure about how they compare to the good old days. Those oldies must have been really good to compete with Steinway, but Steinway still ruled then....as now. We have a few here from the 20's and are really dependable. The new ones I serviced at the store in Seattle were easy to tune and prep out of the box, and had a rich, warm sound with that carrying, powerful bass that they were famous for in the old days... Here's a short "order" of my personal preference of what you listed: 1. Hamburg Steinway 2. New York Steinway 3. Fazioli (too much $) 4. Bosendorfer (also too much $ and brighter than I like) 5. Yamaha - always dependable, easy to service, etc) 6. Kawai - ( same as Yamaha, but I like their tone better, especailly on FF or FFF) 7. These last two, Estonia and Petrof, I'm not a big fan of, but consider them equal in terms of workability, tunability, regulateability, etc, so, if you're picking between two, it would be play both next to each other, check actions, etc and flip a coin. without the abilty to compare, I would choose the Petrov.... Hope this helps a little... Paul T. Living out here on the prairies of Canada, it’s been difficult to compare pianos when Yamaha has dominated the field for three decades. I have a client who recently bought a Model A Mason & Hamlin grand. It’s a very nice piano. I have another client who is looking for a grand and I’m looking for feedback on how the NEW Mason & Hamlins stack up against the following NEW pianos: New York Steinway Hamburg Steinway Fazioli Eastonia Bosendorfer Petrof Kawai Yamaha Look forward to hearing from someone.
