Damper felt replacement should include the following for consideration:

Rebushing the damper guide rail which often involves putting on a new coat
of shellac , sizing the new bushings plus new felt on the bottom of the
rails

Polishing out the damper wires

Refinishing heads (if needed)

Remove damper tray, inspect underlevers and repair as needed, lubricate
spring slots weigh and adjust spring tension

Replace tray felt (or convert to capstan system if you want to)

Replace upstop felt

Replace key end felt if worn

Check tray elevations (this is the time to make that change if necessary)

Replace damper felt which may involve cutting the felt if you are not using
precut sets-and even then you often need to cut anyway

Regulate damper lift from key and pedal

Adjust damper seating and spacing

Did I leave anything out?

Six hours is wishful thinking. Thorough damper work takes time. Figure two
days.

Subject: [pianotech] Damper felt replacement

I was looking at a labor repair guide, and it states it takes six hours to
do a complete damper felt replacement on a grand piano. Just double
checking to see if that is accurate.

Also, what other procedures do I need to do before/after, i.e regulation,
etc?

Thanks,
