Andrew,
I'm sure our list crew will offer some insight , but why not contact M and H directly. Emailing a picture could help also.

Subject: [pianotech] Newer Mason BB side bearing

  List,

I was asked to look at a Mason BB, about 3 years old, because the owner was concerned about the amount of side bearing in the middle section. I had to agree with him, the side bearing in the middle section was the least I had ever seen. The other 4 sections looked more "normal". I just don't see any new Masons and don't know if this is how they set up their pianos now, or maybe this one didn't quite get done right. The tone is fine in this section, very comparable to the surrounding sections. Though it was a tonal distortion on C#5 which prompted the owner to look inside their piano in the first place.

Otherwise I was completely impressed with this instrument. They really seem to have made an effort to build an instrument which incorporates all of the great ideas which have come down through the years. The trap work and damper system were most impressive. I spent most of my time mucking around here chasing down some minor problems.

If anybody has any experience with these wonderful creatures and can help me allay the owner's fears, I would appreciate it. Or if you feel this is a warranty issue I would like to know also.
