greetings, 
   I use a handfull of small spring clamps to keep 6 or 8 strings on the 
hitch pins at once. I put them through the bridge pins and lay them out on a 
moving blanket that protects the plate and keeps the strings from diving 
through the treble strings, plate holes, etc.  On some of the bigger pianos, I 
also put a box of tuning pins on a slat that holds the strings down on the 
bridge while I work.
