Bruce: With brass rails the center pins are held in place with butt plates, not a hammer butt center. The center pins can work their way sideways as the butt plates loosen over time and allow the hammer to travel a bit sideways. I serviced one that was so bad the bass hammers were sounding the neighboring notes. It was necessary to repin all the butts. Check your pinning and correct any problems before bending shanks, which would be the next step.
