They will need to be trimmed up to make them work better. The tip is too wide and blocks the hammers at the end of the damper section.
There have been several techs who have glued two mutes together to do the same thing but I like the long handle for player and bird cage pianos.
The two mutes that I use are tied together with "Spider Wire" so that they do not dislodge and fall into the unreachable voids of the piano.
Once spent 30 minutes retrieving a mute and while doing it found two others that had been lost by another tuner.

What is a spring steel split mute? And where do I get one? I normally use a Papps mute for the tri-chords, and whatever fits best for the bi-chords.

The above is done with a wide rubber mute and the spring steel split mute. This mute works like the pap mute without the metal attack.
