You certainly should attract some people from colder climates! Keep in mind that most manufacturer reps are tied up in early January for the NAMM show, so if you want the company people to teach you should try to schedule late in the month / end of the month. If you do the week-long session as you described, piano companies also would probably only want to spare us for 2 days, but it shouldn't be hard to stagger classes to allow for that. In other words, I would not be able to teach on Monday and Friday, but would have to schedule classes on consecutive days. I did a 1 day seminar there some years ago, and had the feeling that it was really appreciated by the local techs because these sorts of things are so rarely held in Hawaii. Although I’ve toyed with the idea, and it would be neat to have one here, before I pursue this, I want to find out how many of you are actually interested in coming here if a seminar was offered. This is what I have in mind. The seminar would be next January, and would last a week. (Arrive on Sunday, and go home on Saturday). Classes, which have not yet been determined, would only be in the morning, so that everyone can enjoy the island in the afternoon and evening. There will be some planned activities, but most of the afternoons and evenings will be free. There will not be an exhibit hall and if you want to be an instructor, sorry, you will have to pay your own way. Registration for the seminar would in the $100 - $150 range, but meals, banquets, trips, tours etc., will be offered ala cart. Room rates at most hotels are $125 - $150 per night. The good news is, because classes will be offered, the whole trip will be all be tax deductible. If your interested in coming here next January for a week of fun and education, please e-mail me privately. I hope the weather will be a little better than what it was this morning.
