  I do a slow wink with the jack tender feeling how the jack gets back under the knuckle I want to feel the jack brush the knuckle but not too much.  I also give the hammer shank a slight nudge downward to 
  see how that makes a difference.

  Jack too high ? it wont get back under the knuckle.  Too low ? and your hammer line will drift.
