HI Allan, It depends upon the vintage, but it's not too challenging. If you remove the pedal rods from the back of the pedals, you can then usually just remove the faceplate to pull the pedals. Remove the 6 screws in the brass (or chrome or nickel) faceplate from which the pedals emerge, and the assembly will slide right out to you. If you need to address the raviolis (pedal cushions) or the felts that line the box, you'll need to remove the 8 (?) screws from the bottom of the pedal box and it will come off.
