Matthew and all:
I'm the one that came up with the stringing tool made from a length of steel brake line. 1/4" diameter works best, 4" long. Its available for about $5 at auto supply stores. Flatten one end of the tubing, then drill two 1/32" holes opposite each other as shown. Cut the new string to length as needed (keeping in mind two strings are being replaced) adding extra for coils on the tuning pin. Make a U-shaped bend halfway down the length of the wire, then thread the two ends of the string into the tubing from the flattened end, leaving enough showing to hook over the hitch pin. Then from the tuning pins toward the hitch pin, carefully push the tubing with strings inside through the space where you removed the broken strings. The tubing may be bent to make this easier, as it straightens easily afterwards. Hook the string loop over the hitch pin (I use a small pair of vise grips to keep the loop in place) and carefully slide the tubing off the strings, being careful not to twist the tubing as its being removed. Then complete the installation at the tuning pins.
