Could it also be that the bridge isnt choked by too short a backscale length? That would be my vote for the number one reason that this bass sounds so clear. I like Ron Nossamans approach better (see the picture he posted recently) with the holes drilled along the length for reduced mass, cantilever elimination and slots cut up into the bridge from the soundboard point of contact where the holes are drilled which, I believe, are designed to achieve something similar.
