? Hi Mike/ Bill
?? I prep the rim stained, built up with seal, sand flat?& apply?one good coat of gloss nitro cell.lac. with a pressure pot& ?let dry. Then glued? in the board. The board was built up with final coats prior to glue in. After the clamps come off I clean up any glue residue & any other minor repair, prep then spray the entire project again with 2 final coats. It makes everything look more homogeneous. Then it gets rubbed out. I'm considering using pre cat nitro cell to speed up the process & get a harder finish sooner. All the coats can go in in one day & rub out after a couple hours is possible. The smell I?intensely dislike?however?Currently I'm using the Kelly Moore nitro cell. lacquer & I'm not satisfied with it. Too soft too long.
? Bill-- I'm trying an epoxy coating product on the bridge tops called Rot Doctor which has different naturals resins in it. It doesn't go off in the can even over night. Jury is still out but so far it's doing what I want it to.
I've used shellac for many years but I wanted something harder.
?This stuff I just brushed on. Several coats & let dry over night. I let it run into the holes and all & the pin fit was still perfect & tight. Drove the pins the next day after 18 hours of drying.
? This eliminated repeat coats of shellac and lacquer in the notches & it looks?glossy & finished with just rubbing with steel wool. It has a bit of a glossy look similar to the? shellac.

Dale,?
Quick question about finishing. You spray lacquer on the board and rub out? Do you mask the case, or are you spraying both simultaneously??
?
thanks?
