I'm not suggesting that we don't give John money. But someone asked about the tax angles, from our perspective as well as John's

If you want to give John money, by all means, But if you want to deduct more than $600 as a business expense, it needs to be done the right way.

I don’t understand why John can’t simply accept it as a gift which is not taxable unless it exceeds $13,000 from any one individual.
