[pianotech] Another great experience ( OT)

We have 2 older girls ( 29, 27) so we've had plenty of practice of watching kids grow up, then leave the nest and then try to tackle world. One thing that I'm very clear about is the job we have as parents. That's taking on the responsibility of raising our children into full functioning adults. We want them to mature into people who will grow into responsible adults. We want them to understand their role in the world and especially how to cope with the world around them.
That being said, it's still a very difficult and emotional chapter in the life of a parent when those children are ready to leave.

They all want to spread the wings, Tom. It's nothing personal. My wife and I "lost" two sons that way, One went Colorado and the other to Florida. But then it was wonderful to go to see them on vacation.

Don't I know it. We are in the planning stages of moving her 700 miles away for college in the fall. There's going to be a big void in our household when she moves onto her new world. Gosh how I wish she would have chosen a college closer to home. Oh well.....

      List,
I have to say I'm one proud father who is beaming ear to ear. As many of you are aware, I have a multi-faceted career as piano technician, symphony musician, private clarinet teacher, AND conductor of one very fine youth symphony.
We've been in concert for the past month doing a very aggressive program:
      Eggmont Overture- Beethoven
      Vivaldi G min. Violin concerto
Rhapsody in Blue- Gerswin ( Laura Servinsky)
      Polvetsian Dances - Borodin

My high school daughter is the featured pianist for the Rhapsody in Blue and I gotta tell you, I am one happy, proud, and damn lucky Dad. Having the opportunity to conduct and have my own daughter as the solist in Rhapsody in Blue is one of the greatest thrills of my musical career. Words can't even begin to describe the sensations I've been experiencing.
The orchestra has been in concert for the last month and we have one more show to do. My father, who also is a professional musician, has never heard her play in public before. He'll be at our last concert and I have feeling the moment is going to get to the best of me. I have a feeling there's going to be a steady stream of tears out of my eyes, enough to fill a river by the time the piece ends.

Congrats Tom, I wish I could be there Rhapsody in Blue is one of my favorite pieces and to see it performed in this fashion would make it so much more special. Enjoy, Remember and Treasure, they're grown and gone very fast!
How wonderful for you and her!!
