[pianotech] Player system

All,

After years of searching for the "best" system, I chose to be an installer of LX Live performance. We have 27 Disklaviers and I am trained in these as well, but here is why I chose LX;

1. The LX will play almost any disc made (by other companies. Some newer Yamaha silent play won't work)
2. It's nearly foolproof/maintenance free. No callbacks
3. The larger plungers and other features make it nearly heat free. Play continuous w/o heating up
4. The MAIN reason is its sound. Other players don't get close to the "Live sound". Wayne is a genius.

You really should hear it and you'll immediately hear the difference. Drawbacks; we usually don't install record strips. They tend to be the reason for most callbacks. Wayne did some studies and found that most people don't use, or rarely use the record function anyway. With our 27 Disklaviers at BYU only 3 are used to record. Go figure. They ALL said they wanted it for the record function. If you really want to record, then I would definitely choose the Disklavier. Also, the cost is more, but well worth it in my opinion.

Hope that helps.

Hi Larry.

Thank you for your input.
I was thinking of a system that mutes the piano (so you can play late at night) and triggers a sampler (so you can hear a piano sound in a headphone). But it is interesting to dig into that player stuff. This is not that popular in Europe yet, but I’m sure it will in the near future.

Best regards.

Stéphane Collin.

I am not sure what you mean by a silent system. In my mind the penultimate system is the Wayne Stahnke Live Performance LX system. It does not have a record function but the solenoids operate at a much higher level and it does have proportional pedalling unlike QRS or PianoDisc. http://www.live-performance.com
