>Here in the West of Scotland there is a dearth of both! >And I'm sure there are compelling and elegant reasons you have for living there; my point is that wherever you choose to practice, offering more than tuning in an artisan, serious atmosphere sets you apart from the herd, and >eventually gets you the great clients that are there... Compelling and elegant reasons....well... I was born here, and there's my old Mother who lives near me, and though in her 80s and in poor health and needing help, is certainly compelling and elegant.... I completely agree about offering more than tuning. Last evening I had dinner with a couple who are old family friends, local musicians, whose piano I look after. They put up with very noisy bass dampers for years, because their former tuner wasn't willing to offer to do anything about it. They were so delighted when I renewed the felts. And, for the sake of our own enjoyment, for skill-honing, and for variety, it is so good to carry out even small repair and regulation aspects. By the way, if you have twice the clients you can cope with, and think I should move over there, maybe I should start investigating the Green Card now..... Best, David Boyce.
