When a lyre breaks it from rolling it breaks towards the leg that ends up on top. Running a brace down to the lyre and firming it up prevents that (moved a piano that previously broke its lyre this way without incident). I am curious about the "T" thingy people use instead. As to Godzilla, usually the for exerted is at right angles to the brace as installed.
