I took a free trial of their GPS system on a Verizon phone. The route is plotted using map data from Verizon over the cell towers. Once the map is downloaded to the phone the GPS satellites are all that is needed. On the trip I took with it we went through an area where Verizon had no cell towers but the phone didn't care because it had already downloaded the maps. On our return I took a detour in that no-cell-service area and the phone wanted to calculate a new route to match where I was headed but couldn't get the maps because of no service. Once I got to where Verizon had towers it recovered. I now have a Garmin and all the maps are on the device. dave David M. Doesn't it run through the CP towers as well like a regular CP does, or does it run directly from the phone through the satellites instead? My son was using his to drive to Wisconsin this past Friday. He uses Verizon. Every 10 minutes, it shut off on him because he was running through an area with no service. He also had a regular Garmin GPS as a back up with him. He punched the address into that and found it that way. But I use my Garmin GPS to drive there. Also, I find the Garmin GPS is more accurate on the arrival time estimate vs the Google Map.
