I've been using plugs and Dianne's H's canal caps but I don't
much care for things stuck in my ear. I recently received an
email from a woodworking supply about Sensgard

I bought a few sets and tried one today. I like them better
than anything else I've tried. With the plugs, I would need
to remove them to tune around G6 and up, plus the bass.
With these, I could tune the whole piano, even the last
octave was audible. Even tuning mismatched partials on
bass strings was made easy.

I did have to tweak the tension because over a period of
time the pressure bothered my ears.

These are 26 db attenuation, they also make a 31 db.

Web search for lowest price, these were $19.95.
