New customer today, 1939 overstrung overdamped upright (probably a little Kemble). Fairly regularly tuned in the past, and at or near pitch. Horrible squeaky creaky damper lift pedal. "We must do something about that" I said. The customer responded with a fairly sceptical "You'll be lucky" type of comment. The problem was corrected very easily by very standard means. The customer was amazed and delighted, and told me that SEVERAL different tuners over the years couldn't seem to do anything about it. (The family had lived in various parts of the UK). Made me wonder, if several different tuners couldn't tackle a very easy problem, what's to be said about the general standard of tuner/technicians to be found in the UK these days? Best regards, David Boyce.
