[pianotech] Fw: Tuning fees/a reminder: a bit OT

Hi David,

Exactly my point too. We are not conspiring anything at all. Basically, just venting now about gas stations doing it…

The truth is that what you or I know of anyone’s prices is immaterial. The illegal part is conspiring to fix our prices. While I have not seen any evidence of that (price fixing) here I am just more comfortable leaving that subject alone. I don’t want to spend any time or money defending myself from some overzealous regulator because of flippant comments made here or anywhere else. Why do we have to talk about it? Either raise your prices or don’t.

LOL Paul. I feel exactly the same way. It’s a bunch of B.S. The fact of the matter is that we are not impervious to inflation. We require raising our prices to meet the cost of living just like anyone else does. I frankly, see nothing wrong with discussing that. For that matter, one person calls me and asks what do you charge? I tell them. Someone on the tech lists asks, I tell them. So friggen what? Nobody is matching anyone else’s pricing because of it anyway. But, apparently, matching prices with gas stations is okay and I doubt most of them are unionized, or are they?

Now as for some of that scotch….. Pass the bottle with ya Paul?

A worker guy at a gas station, on the sly (and not sure if this is really true,), told me the owners of all the gas stations in Lincoln are all buddies! (except for the BP dudes). They all collaborate right before big city events, like Husker football, raise their prices by sometimes 20 cents on thursdays, and then, the prices all come down around Tuesday the next week! Go figgur...Pisses me off. Now, for some reason, today, with no big events, everyone boosted 15 cents/gal. Maybe legit, probably not. I think they're all smoking cigars, drinking scotch and laughing at the rest of us. Interesting that prices jump by 20 cents right away, and then slowly lower over several days...... Hummmmmm....

I know we techs are waaay above this, so it really doesn't bother me to discuss rates, but the bylaws makes it pretty clear that we're not a union and therefore can't talk.

Mums the word about my raising rates in 2011!! ;>)

Paul

Yeah! The dinks!!!

Yesterday, I was filling up in a station where it said $2.70 (oh no! I’m talking prices again! LOL!). By the time I was finished filling my tank, the sign had been changed to $2.95. As I drove down the road, other stations had also changed their signs to $2.95, up from $2.70. Why is it, they raise prices 25¢ in the blink of an eye but yet, when it comes to lowering them, they come down just about a penny at a time or so?

And they all change prices within minutes of each other... without telling anyone outside their secret organization.

Gee, I sure wish someone would tell the local gas stations about this….. Everyone around here is within one penny of one another if not the exact same price. How do they get away this this???
