This is not a "pressure" hold, in that the screw isn't used to prevent things from moving. It's just there to hold the action in place.



WTF? It isn't used to prevent things from  moving - it is there to hold the action in place. Sooooooooooo, it is there to keep the action from moving. Right?

I guess I shoud have said, "things that move". In other words,  a screw that holds a hinge, or a flange, is a "moving" screw. The action is held in place with no moving parts.

It shouldn't. This is not a "pressure" hold, in that the screw isn't used to prevent things from moving. It's just there to hold the action in place. As long as the hole that is drilled for the screw is the right size, it should hold indefinitely.

The best option is to drill out the hole, and put in a dowel. The dowel will need to be epoxied in, however, and you should allow that to cure for at least 2 hours.

I have a 1955 Wurlitzer console with the really long screws to hold the action brackets to the plate... or more accurately, to the spacer between the action bracket and the plate. One of the holes is stripped. I can screw the screw all the way in with my fingers.  I can think of a few options, but ideally it would be nice to replace the screw/spacer with a more typical stud/nut configuration.
Other options I think of are:
- larger diameter screw (probably entails making a new spacer)
- chase out the hole, fill with a (dowel?) plug and re-drill for old screw (but that results in screwing into end grain)
- epoxy to build up the existing hole

Any advice or other ideas?
