Another comment I have had is that after tuning the piano is "louder".  I 
explain that before tuning, all of the strings are playing at different 
frequencies, so do not re-enforce the primary frequency of the primary note. 

And then there is the itinerant tuner who, after tuning an old upright for the first time in living memory, received the complaint:  "What happened to the vibrato?"

I have been watching this thread of comments and yes, I have had on 
occasion, calls on the notes not damping in the treble and especially the 
first treble note after the dampers stop.  It even becomes more prominent, 
as someone has already commented, after tuning and all the strings are able 
to vibrate to the overtones of tenor strings being played.

Yamaha helped that not be a problem by cutting the last damper so it only 
damps two of the three strings.

With all unisons resounding to the same frequency, they sound louder, just
