To convert any document to a gif, jpg, or jpeg file, I save it as a pdf file, then copy what I want from the pdf (Tools > Select & Zoom > Snapshot Tool) and either paste it directly into a document, or paste it into an image editing program (I use IrfanView) and save it in my choice of formats. To save the document as a pdf file in the first place, I either use utilities included in my office suite (OpenOffice) or use a print driver called Cute PDF Printer http://www.cutepdf.com, which allows me to print anything I choose to a PDF file instead of to a physical printer.
