This is true and there is a lot that can be done about it but will require the tray pivot pin to be installed either in line or closer to be inline with the damper lever center pins. Each pin would rotate at the same axis like most other modern sanely designed systems. This remedy will remove most of the annoying the thump thump experienced by the pianist. Bad pedal technique also makes this noisy pedal business way worse.
