I wouldn't be too sure- you never know

Maybe they are renting and the landlord never 'gets around' to fixing things

Or maybe they are musicians that spend all their money on instruments and
not on mailboxes (I have known many professional musicians with amazing
instruments in mint condition- with shabby housing)

Or maybe the piano belongs to the in laws and they pay for the upkeep

... who knows
