This one reminds me of when I went to a doctor's house to tune the piano. His wife was supposed to leave the door open for me which she did. What she did NOT do however, was to turn off the alarm system! When I opened the door, holy CRAP what a racket! No way could I tune the piano. The alarm people called the police. I waited for over 30 minutes before they finally showed up. They also had to call the doctor's office because nobody could get ahold of the wife. The doctor had to cancel his appointments just to go home, meet the police, tell them everything was alright and disarm the thing. Luckily for me, I talked to the police, showed my identifaction while they walked through the house checking things etc., and left before he got home because I heard later from his wife that he was REALLY PISSED OFF! I didn't charge for that one either!!! He approached me and we exchanged words about why we were both there. He was told by the neighbors that there hadn't been any activity in the house for a day or two. As we chatted a fire truck pulled up. I started walking around the place looking in windows. "There he is!" I hollered. Through the bathroom window, through the door and barely past an inside corner I saw him sitting in his TV watching chair, basketball game in full swing on the tube. About then the locksmith showed up and unlocked the front door. The EMT's first, then the cop, then me. I entered just in time to see the EMT pick up the old guy's wrist and drop it followed by a confirming nod. I can remember thinking, "Well, I guess I won't be rebuilding his player piano.". I found a nice quiet place in a parking lot and took a nap until my next appointment. I never charged "the estate" for the call .......... and I'm still in business.
