Maybe not. I don't recall the brand, but I remember bringing an old upright
out of a basement that had an iron plate covering the back. What a
back-breaker! (but it had a lovely tone when we got done reconditioning it!)

You are thinking of the Everett piano (console) that does not have metal
back posts, they are tension levers.

While we're on the subject of actions.  I received a call yesterday from a
lady who wants a piano tuned, an old upright Philadelphia & Co.  She
described the action or plate as being in the back?  some sort of harp I
believe she mentioned.  Is this the piano with the metal back posts?
