[pianotech] Premium service

My plan is to spend and extra 30 to 45 minutes.

One of my premium clients today was a long time customer. He ordered it
because he had a note that wasn't working and wondered if premium service
covered its repair. Here is how I responded:

Yes, the premium service will cover fixing a stuck key. I should have time
left to address some other things on your piano that need taken care of as
well.

Your piano could benefit from a major regulation job, which is basically
putting the action, the mechanism, into proper adjustment. This would
dramatically improve the touch responsiveness and repetition speed. It
hasn't had anything but tuning done to it in 20+ years. All at once such a
regulation would cost $400-$600, but we can nibble away at it with premium
service and make improvements.

Professional cleaning is another thing that hasn't been done in 20 years.

These are the kinds of things that I would do with Premium Service. Not
everything all at once, but extra time spent with every tuning service to
get the piano into shape and stay on top of it.

It was an email exchange. He was responding to my email reminder notice.

BTW, the piano was a 20 year old Young Chang G150. The problem was the
repetition flange had come unglued. I coated it with wood glue, put it
together, a couple drops of CA, instant repair.

Where do you draw the line with what you're offering? I don't know how much
time you allow, but what do you, or limit yourself to, for the additional
price. And how do you explain that the piano needs more than just the
"premium" service?
