without the key in the photo, it's a bit difficult to tell for certain, but it appears to be a variant on the French action, more commonly found in American square pianos. It also has some similarity to the English single grand action. Both are very easy to regulate and really very nice to play. Cheap, Don? Fewer pieces. Different. There is more than one successful way to make a piano action.
