[pianotech] Grand Piano Lift

Rob,
Would not a good engine lift fitted with a proper sling, rolled to the edge of the stage lift a big grand? I've used one in my shop for years to lift plates. It folds and stores easily.  Mine cost about $250.

  If they are adventurous and willing to put some thought into it, I would consider installing a hoist in the ceiling. Many of my theaters have these electric hoists for those pesky moves. Of course they would have to get into the rafter areas and look for a structural supported area to install the hoist.
  A little time and thought could save thousands of $$ over the course of years.

    I have a client, a homeowner's association, that has a small grand at a location with a stage.

    They apparently like to use this piano on the stage sometimes, while at other times down on the main floor.  The only access for moving the piano are stairs, and they are tired of paying movers every time they need the piano up on stage or back down on the main floor.

    Does anyone have any experience or know of a solution?  I'm thinking something along the lines of a lift from the back of a truck or loading dock that can fold up into the front of the stage when not in use.  The stage is about 5' up from the main floor.  Maybe some of our CAUT members might have to deal with this, too?  I'm not on that list, but please feel free to post this on the CAUT list, as well.  Thanks...
