I think it's easier to first 'manually push down the rail arm enough 
to remove the hook'
but then remove the treble side before the bass side. This enables 
you to maneuver
the rail to disconnect the spring.  To reinstall, connect the spring, 
insert the bass side
pivot, then insert the treble pivot.
