Barb

I've squirted Protek onto the jack springs to eliminate the noise. At least it's gone while I'm tuning the piano.

Subject: [pianotech] Noisy jack springs on a vertical

Hello all,

Here is a problem I've run into only 1 other time before and I came across it again on another piano. The jack springs under the jack toes rattle when the key is played. On this particular piano, it is a grey market U2 with plastic jacks. I've checked the springs to make sure they're still glued solid in the wippens, and that they are in place correctly under the jacks. It just seems to me there is just enough gap in the spring grooves under the toes where the springs sit that is causing them to shift and rattle when played.

Has anyone else ran into a similar problem, and what can be done other than possibly replacing springs and/or jacks? Or maybe am I hearing something completely different? It sure does sound like noisy springs to me when I isolate the movements.

Thanks for the help.
