Just measure the core and wrap of its mate and the appropriate lengths (hitch to bridge pin on speaking side and hitch to agraffe from which the speaking length can be calculated. Better, or if they are both missing, is to measure the diameter core and wrap of the notes on either side of the missing string(s) then take the length measurements for both strings on that particular note, send the data to the stringmaker and they will calculate what's needed to bridge the gap. Replace them both to be sure they match anyway. Carry a micrometer and designated tape for string length measurement with you at all times--saves an extra trip.
