It also means that you might know what you're doing and the overshoot is 
compensation for where everything will settle when the back torque of 
the pin is happy and in equilibrium with the string tension and system 
friction. Anyone that can't read the system isn't going to be able to 
produce a stable tuning, and string rendering is part of reading the 
system.
