List,

I was fortunate to have a meeting of the minds with none less than Isaac Sadigursky this weekend. Among the various things we discussed was chronically loose glue joints in upright actions (as per this thread). Isaac suggested applying vinegar. After about 45 seconds, it loosens the glue enough so that the parts can usually be separated, if needed. Allowed to sit for 3 or 4 minutes, the glue will reset, solving the clicks and rattles associated with starved glue joints in most cases. If that doesn't do it, Isaac advises, re-apply the vinegar, separate the parts, and re-glue.

I felt it was not fair for me alone to be the beneficiary of Isaac's knowledge on this subject of mutual interest, so he gave me permission to write it up and post it to the list. Isaac, thanks, and please feel free to chime in if I didn't get it right.
