Just a reminder to all, I am now saving the cut offs from heavy bass strings to chuck in my Dremel to drill the bushings. They are about the right size for a 20 gauge needle and they don't break if you run into the side of the tuning pin down in the pin block, as high speed drills sometimes do. The clipped off end works fine as a boring tip. No special sharpening is needed. Piano wire should also work for drilling a few hard hammers from side to side if you don't have a number 80 drill bit. They might get hot if working fast. I first tried using a needle for hammer drilling. It works but the needle gets hot and starts to burn the felt and leave little brown spots after a few hammers are penetrated like this. Doug Gregg Classic Piano Doc
