I think this idea alone should be enough to decide you for replacing the 
hammers, especially since the owner is willing. Leaving such compromised 
parts in the piano just isn't acceptable, IMO, if the owner isn't living 
on Food Stamps. These hammers have already proven that they can fail 
completely.
